When shopping for new denim, it's hard to beat a good, reliable regular fit jean. With a slightly looser silhouette, regular fit jeans are perfect for everyday dressing as they pair perfectly with all your casual classics. But when it comes to choosing the right style, there are several factors worth considering.
Getting the perfect leg length is critical to finding a pair of jeans that you'll rely on time and time again. To find out your size, you need to measure your inside leg by measuring from the crotch to the ankle with a flexible tape measure. You can then use this measurement to browse jeans online and find your perfect pair.
You need to make sure your jeans are comfortable enough to wear every single day, so it's worth investing in the best quality fabrics and thoughtful construction. When it comes to comfort, stretch is the magic word. If you like your jeans to have a bit of ‘give', look for denims with a touch of elastane blended into the fabric. At 883 Police, we use Active Flex in many of our designs, to guarantee total comfort from dawn to dusk.
You might have heard the terms ‘high rise' and ‘low rise' being thrown around in the denim world. The general rules are these: if you're on the short side, it's best to opt for a high-rise waistband as this will make your legs appear a little longer. If you have long legs, a low-rise waistband is the way to go to get your body looking more proportionate.
Bootcut or straight leg?
This all boils down to whether you want to show off your kicks or not. A bootcut, regular fit jean will flare slightly at the bottom of the leg, covering up your shoes. For this reason, bootcuts are great if you're wearing rugged boots. If you're more of a sporty runner or varsity sneaker type, a straight leg jean will remain the same slim width from thigh to hem, stopping short of covering up your sneakers. Opt for a slightly longer leg length to get a slight bunching in the hem and avoid looking too ‘preppy'.
Are you a classic blue jean man or do you prefer something a little different? Black jeans are great for looking smart without having to opt for formal tailoring, and bold colour jeans are a great way to bring brighter hues into your everyday wardrobe. If your budget will stretch, pick out several options so you always have a go-to jean to suit the occasion.
